Biodiversity and agronomy - Introduction

The biodiversity plays a key role in the development and the upholding of the agrarian practices all over the world. This biodiversity is related to the grown species and varieties, but also to the ecosystems where those farmings are established, starting with the soil. The recent evolution of those practices shows a considerable decrease of the structure and of the functioning of this biodiversity. In the short and medium terms, this is a threat for the food production capacities. In order to ensure a sustainable agriculture, Etienne Hainzelin points out the necessity to develop agrarian practices, which are more intense from an ecological point of view. In this third part, you will discover the biodiversity of the terrestrial and continental aquatic environments. Those environments are extremely diversified and are subjected to very specific dynamics, like intermittent rivers or ecological successions of the forest environments. Some of those environments present important physicochemical variations, like the rivers, from the spring to the estuary. The biodiversity is very rich in those environments, and several preservation prospects are presented. Mot(s) clés libre(s) : biodiversity, forest, river

In this second part, discover the biodiversity of the oceans, from the coral reefs to the coastal lagoons. This biodiversity, of which the knowledge is still partial, is the subject of great attentions, by virtue of its importance in the main balances of the biosphere, but also by virtue of the favors it does for the human societies, beginning with the supplying of food resources. The ecosystem approach to fisheries is currently developed in this context, in order to reconcile those different preservation issues. Mot(s) clés libre(s) : biodiversity, oceans

Nadia Belaïdi presents the Peace Parks, which are protected areas having an objective of biodiversity cross-border protection, of peace between populations sharing resources, and of local development. Then she mentions all the discussions related to the recognition of the ecocide crime, which is an irreversible, intentional or not, act of destruction of an ecosystem. In this first part, discover what are the biodiversity, its origins 3,8 billion years ago, and its evolution mechanisms, especially the extinction crisis of the main species. You will better understand the current state of the biodiversity, and why it is important to preserve its dynamics. Mot(s) clés libre(s) : biodiversity, crisis
